General Election Infographic

Our Tim has designed an infographic on voter turnout at general elections, comparing us to other nations and highlighting one or two issues (click on it to see it more detail).

Before the election, we were concerned that only 37% of 18-24 year olds bothered to vote in the 2005 election. Well, the new televised leaders’ debates changed things pretty quickly. People were really energised (even people under 25) and it seems likely that these debates played a large part in the subsequent increase in turnout. It remains to be seen how many under-25s voted, but it's expected to be an increase on 2005.

But with the subsequent furore surrounding voters being shut out of polling stations, fourteen-year-olds voting, deals between parties and electoral reform, our focus turned to the voting process itself.
